Today I started my internship with the Employee Wellness Department! For most of the day, I attended welcome meetings and worked with the team to ensure the rest of the internship runs smoothly. The team also held its quarterly review, which I found incredibly insightful because I learned about all the services the department offers and the trends in these services within the corporation. I was also able to talk a little bit about this website in the meeting! We also had a baby shower to celebrate a team member, and it included some fantastic baked goods from another team member! Overall, today included a lot of housekeeping tasks like learning what this semester will hold, but I look forward to learning and growing with this team!

Today was my first day at a hospital site with one of the consultants. We started by attending Day 2 of the new-hire orientation, where the consultant presented an overview of the benefits Wellstar offers to employees. After that, we walked over to a nurse’s station and presented a perk that Wellstar offers called ShareCare. It offers an incentive program that allows employees to earn points, which can be redeemed for prizes such as gift cards through challenges, attendance at wellness or preventive visits, and quizzes. After this session, the consultant had a virtual meeting with Wellstar team members to present week two of a four-week financial literacy class. We also completed rounds through the Women’s Health Department, specifically the Mother and Baby Unit, and distributed additional ShareCare fliers to the nurses and other staff in the halls. To round out the day, we checked the on-site employee wellness rooms, maintained the massage chairs, and stocked the snacks, waters, and teas. To end the day, I learned more about a program called Shine Well, which gives employees the opportunity to recognize colleagues through e-cards or awards.

Today I finished my first week with the Employee Wellness team. I started off the day by working with the consultants on finishing my notes about all of the special and unique benefits Wellstar offers to employees. I also practiced my “sales” pitch for one of the benefits, Sharecare. After this, we spent almost three hours walking through all areas of the Emergency Department talking to the employees of those areas. We walked around with the Chaplain and the representative of Spring Health, another benefit you get working at Wellstar, and gave out snacks, drinks, pens (which were a big hit among the healthcare crew), lavender towels, and information cards about Sharecare and Spring Health. During this time I was able to mark off one of my requirements of the internship! I led my first rounding session and was able to hold conversations with employees about the benefits of Sharecare, as well as troubleshoot any issues and resolve any questions they may have had. After our long walk around the ED, the consultant and I then walked around the campus and toured the Health Place, which is a fully staffed gym open to employees and the public. It includes things like childcare, an Olympic sized pool, saunas, new gym equipment, pickleball courts, and classrooms. To finish up our day, we held a team meeting with the lab to talk about the new updates to Sharecare, and hand out fliers with all of the benefits we offer!

Today I worked virtually due to the holiday, but it was still an incredibly productive. I was able to work on a lot of different behind the scenes tasks to help prepare me for the coming weeks of my internship. I spent a large portion of the day working on a script to help prepare for a presentation on Sharecare. I worked on outlining the key points, benefits, and worked to find answers for common questions so the presentation flows clearly and effectively for employees. I was also able to use feedback I have previously received from the consultants to better format my presentation to ensure that all the information I was presenting was up to date and aligned with how it is typically presented at in-person longer form events. The feedback I received was incredibly helpful during my refining process for both the structure and wording of the presentation, and allowed me a better understanding of how to tailor messages to different audiences. In addition to presentation prep, I spent time researching and preparing information for proposing my semester-long project. I worked on brainstorming ideas and outlining objectives. Additionally, I worked to consider all angles, like how different projects could support employee wellness initiatives or the consultants.

Today was another incredibly busy day with the Employee Wellness team, and my first time transitioning locations during the day. I began the day with leading my second rounding rounding session through the Women’s Health unit, which included the NICU and the Mother Baby Unit, where we were able to connect with staff and share wellness resources like ShareCare. After that, I virtually attended week three of the WellCents program, which was led by the consultant I was with that day. It focused on debt management and understanding credit scores, which was especially informative, and built on the previous week’s discussion about building an emergency fund. After this, I attended a team meeting with the Front of House nutrition team, where where we discussed ongoing initiatives with the Employee Wellness Department, like the recent updates to ShareCare. I also made the trip to the administrative building to help get restock supplies for the employee wellness rooms. This included waters, tea bags, and snacks. After this, I worked with the consultants on revising new flyers that will be passed out in future rounding sessions, as well as advertising for February’s benefit push. To wrap up the day, I filled goodie bags for the other consultants to distribute on their rounding sessions.
January 21, 2026
Today was my busiest day yet, as I went to three different locations today! I started the morning packing more goodie bags, but they were specifically for our upcoming population health events. The bags will be used during population health events to draw employees in to start conversations. After I finished packing all of the bags, we headed to Windy Hill Hospital, where we tabled for ShareCare. We set up a mini photo booth (complete with money themed props) and handed out snacks and money-sign paper clips, which was a fun way to promote financial and overall wellness through benefits that are offered to employees. During this time, I had the opportunity to lead a tabling session on my own and allowed me to practice explaining Sharecare confidently. I also met a fellow Dawg! Later in the day, we traveled to a Health Park and met with the Pulmonary Medicine team to talk more in-depth about financial wellness and resources that are available to Wellstar Employees. We also played financial bingo, which was a great way to incorporate financial health resources Wellstar offers with general knowledge about financial terms. This activity encouraged participation while reinforcing key information in an easy to understand and memorable way.
January 26, 2026
Today we had another virtual day due to the inclement weather in the area! I started off the day by joining a virtual meeting with one of the consultants to go over the agenda and activities of the Wellness Retreat on Tuesday. We talked about how we would organize all of the materials on Tuesday morning before the retreat so it made it easier on us during our limited amount of time. We also worked through the sections I would be presenting during the retreat. For the rest of the day, I worked independently on creating scripts for each of the wellness benefits that we offer so I could be better prepared for future rounding sessions and presentations. In addition to this, I finalized my proposals for my semester-long projects.
January 27, 2026
Today I was at the 1800 building for the Wellness Retreat. I started off by gathering and pre-sorting all of the materials that would be necessary for the retreat. We had a scavenger hunt and a few minute to win it games on the agenda, so I wanted to be as organized as possible so it would run smoothly. I started by gathering the supplies for the minute to win it games we were playing: cotton ball pass, keep up, and paper tower. For the cotton ball pass, I counted out 65 cotton balls per group, along with enough spoons for all of the group members, and put everything together in a bucket. For the keep up game, I blew up balloons, so each group had the proper materials. For the paper tower, I counted out 12 sheets of paper for each group, so they could attempt to build the highest tower using no other materials. After this, I created more goodie bags for future rounding sessions and for other events within the department. We then attended our section of the Wellness Retreat, and I got to complete another check-off, by presenting/leading a section of a Wellness Retreat. I was able to effectively communicate and answer questions about the cotton ball pass game. After this, we rounded through the 1800 building and passed out goodie bags and information about Sharecare to employees. I also got to meet one of out Pawsitive Connections dog, Jersey! She is the sweetest little dog, and loved doing tricks! After this, I attended a meeting to work on the logistics behind a potential expo that the Wellness Department may be attending. I also finalized my projects for the semester, and I look forward to sharing more details in the future!
January 28, 2026
Today I was at Kennestone Hospital, and we hit the ground running with meetings from the time I arrived. We started by hosting a team meeting with the PACU, where we worked on team building with an activity. We gave out paper and pens to all of the team members and had them draw a stick figure of themselves, and write their name at the top. We then prompted them to pass their papers around through the circle to write kind things or encouraging notes about one another. When they were done, we asked them to read out their favorite thing that was written about them, and talked about how if they were having a bad day or needed encouragement, they could look at their paper and read things that their peers believed about them to be true. We then attended a meeting with Kennestone’s HR to talk about retention and turnover rates across the board, and worked to troubleshoot and resolve some of the issues. After that meeting, we worked on some administrative tasks like emails and scheduling at the office before our tabling event with Spring Health. We then prepared all of our handouts and goodies to take to our table. I was able to lead another tabling session today, and was able to talk to so many employees about the wellness resources they have as an employee. I was also able to troubleshoot issues many employees had with their log-ins or redeeming points. After that, we finished up the day with more administrative work, and I got to spend some time researching information for one of my projects!
February 2, 2026
Today I was at the 1800 building, and I started my day with our weekly team meeting, where we got to discuss Care Console and a few other upcoming events and changes. With Care Console, we are able to see the insights and analytics from Sharecare, which was the previous month’s push. We can view engagement data based on location, including how many employees were eligible versus how many signed up, or we already signed up and interacted. We also spent some time brainstorming for the upcoming employee picnics that will be hosted across all campuses, where the Employee Wellness team will have a table. After the meeting, I created rounding bags to be used later in the day, which focused on our new monthly push, Shinewell. Shinewell is a platform that allows employees to recognize their peers for great work through e-cards and awards. After lunch, we rounded on several different floors throughout the 1800 building, and got to connect with employees. After this, I had time to collaborate with the consultants to get their feedback and input on the employee resource guide I am currently working on, which was incredibly helpful as I continue development.
February 3, 2026
Today I was at Cobb Hospital. I started the day with independent work on my employee resource guide before attending day two of new employee orientation, where I was able to observe the employee wellness presentation again. After orientation, I checked, cleaned, and restocked the employee wellness rooms to ensure they were clean, stocked and prepared for employee use. Later, we met with a team to talk about Shinewell and distributed information cards and bracelets to help promote the platform. I then had more time to work independently on projects, which included finding medical-themed Valentine’s cards for an upcoming activity planned with teams during Valentine’s week. I also came up with the idea to connect Shinewell, specifically its awards feature, to the upcoming Winter Olympics. I created a themed flyer for the consultants to use during rounding to promote Shinewell in a more engaging way. Later in the day, we had another team meeting where we shared information about Shinewell, celebrated a team member for being named Team Member of the Month, and recognized a birthday. To end the day, I observed week one of the Wellcents program, which focused on budgeting and understanding personal money values.
February 4, 2026
Today I started my day at the 180 building, where I continued working on my employee resource guide, and collaborated with a consultant to create a rounding-card version of the Shinewell flyer I had designed on Tuesday. I also created a flyer for the rounding session we would be doing later in the day. The theme for this rounding session was promoting self-care, so we created an interactive game where employees could roll a die and receive a self-care item based on what number they rolled. I assigned each number to a specific item and compiled a list so it would be easy to facilitate during rounding. Later, I traveled to Windy Hill Hospital, where I continued working on my project and helped organize the rounding cart in preparation for the game. We then rounded throughout the facility and distributed self-care items while talking to employee about our resources.
February 9, 2026
Today I started at the 1800 building, where I got some time in the morning to work on my resource guide and collaborate with the consultants to get their ideas. I also constructed goodie bags for future rounding events and tabling. After that, we had a meeting about Backup Care, to answer any questions we had and give us a refresher on everything they offer. It was incredibly helpful to learn more, to help me during my day-to-day duties, but also to give more detail in my resource guide. After the meeting, I traveled to North Fulton for the rest of the day. At North Fulton, I helped decorate and celebrate a team member, who was moving to a different position at a different location. This event helped highlight the importance of having a positive workplace culture. After this event, we set up a table in a break room to provide employees with employee wellness resources and create a safe space where employees could ask questions or talk openly about concerns without managers present.
February 10, 2026
Today I was at Cobb Hospital. I started my day by decorating the rounding cart we would use for Shinewell Olympic rounding that I created last week. Then we attended Day 2 Orientation so the consultant could present the employee wellness resources available to team members. After this, we met with one of the first teams I met again. We got to talk about a condensed version of Wellcents, and focused on budgeting, money values, and individual financial goals. Although we had initially planned to round, we decided not to due to Joint Commission being on campus, as to reduce stress on the leaders and employees. I continued working on my resource guide in place of rounding, and I am almost done with all of my notes on the resources! After this, we met with the back of the house nutrition team, where we discussed Shinewell and handed out medal stickers and candy.
February 11, 2026
Today I spent the day at Kennestone. We were originally going to split the day between Kennestone and Cherokee Health Park, but due to Joint Commission being on campus, our meetings at Cherokee were canceled. We started the day with a meeting with a leader from the Medical College of Georgia, who had an inquiry from a student about creating an opportunity for staff to incorporate arts into their workplace. During our free time, I continued working on my employee resource guide, and got to spend more time on creating mock-ups of how the cover page would look, as well as determining what platform I will be using to construct the complete guide. I also spent a significant portion of my day developing a wellness retreat agenda for third-year residents. We then took a tour through the basement area to become more familiar with the layout and determine where departments and areas are that we will be going to in the near future. Additionally, I worked on identifying and gathering materials needed to execute ideas for the wellness retreat.
February 16, 2026
Today I was at the 1800 building. I started the day with some admin time that included working on my resource guide. We then had a team meeting where we discussed upcoming events, policy changes, and reflected on what each team member is committed to doing in the coming weeks to positively impact the workplace and support the team. I also got to complete a new check-off by creating and posting a “First-Up” post that promoted the Special and Unique Benefit of the month, Shinewell. Following that, I sat in on an intake call for a potential virtual group team-building and morale session, which helped provide me insight into how wellness programs can be tailored to departmental and location needs. Later in the day, I attended a meeting about psychological safety within nurse residency programs, in which we talked about strategies and language that we should use in educational materials. I continued going over my employee resource guide and worked on my Sharecare presentation.
February 17, 2026
Today I was at Cobb Hospital. I started by organizing the rounding cart for rounding in the coming days. From there, we went to new employee orientation and I observed the new wellness presentation and continued to reinforce my understanding and ability to communicate benefits. I had a large chunk of time where I was able to work independenltly on my projects and research new ideas for team building that could be incorporated into future events. Later in the day, we hosted a tabling event to recognize Random Acts of Kindness day with Shinewell. Employees who sent a Shinewell recognition within the last week received a stress ball, which are a hot commodity around the hospital. I also cleaned and restocked the employee wellness room.
February 18, 2026
Today I started at Wellstar’s CSC, which provides supplies to all Wellstar locations. During our time at the CSC, I got to present on Sharecare to five different group sessions. I felt this was a great opportunity to independently communicate the platform’s benefits and answer questions, which is another check-off I needed. We also presented a small interactive and thought-provoking version of Wellcents, where we had financial wellness questions and images on the walls and encouraged employees to share their opinions and feelings. This activity helped foster discussion and engagement about financial well-being and beliefs. We also got to work alongside Gracie, one of the Pawsitive Connections therapy dogs, which added a positive atmosphere to the group. After our time at the CSC we traveled to Cobb Hospital where we started by meeting with a team about Shinewell. I then cleaned and restocked the Employee Wellness rooms. After that, we rounded with the new onsite coordinator for Spring Health.
February 23, 2026
Today I started at the 1800 building where I started by preparing materials and questions for an upcoming intake call for a potential team-building meeting, that sadly got rescheduled. I also spent time researching and identifying new team building and wellness activities to expand our resources. Later in the morning, I attended meeting with Tuition.IO and Active & Fit, which provided me a better understanding of the new updates, highlights, and implementation strategies. Later in the day, I traveled to North Fulton to assist in facilitating a tabling session in the ICU breakroom. The goal of this session was to provide employees with a safe and supportive space to talk about their experiences and feelings without management present, while we provided a neutral middle ground. This tabling session led to a lot of open dialogue while also allowing us to promote resources as necessary.
February 24, 2026
Today I was at Cobb Hospital. When I got there, I started with some administrative tasks before observing orientation. After orientation, I observed an intake call for a potential wellness retreat, where collaborated over departmental needs and wants. During my free time, I worked on expanding team-building and wellness retreat resources. I also cleaned and restocked the employee wellness room. After this, we attended a huddle with the front-of-house nutrition team, where we handed out candy and presented on Shinewell. Additionally, I worked on drafting a formal script for my Day 2 orientation presentation to prepare for future competency check-offs. I also collaborated with an employee wellness consultant to refine the phrasing and FAQs section of my employee resource guide. To end the day, I sat in on week four of Wellcents, where the consultant talked about investing.
February 25, 2026
Today I started my day at a new location, Cherokee Health Park! Our first event was a meeting where I got to mark off two more competencies off my list! I presented Spring Health and Circles Concierge to a team independently, and answered questions where applicable. After that, we had some admin time before our next event. During this admin time, I was incredibly profuctive. I completed another competency by creating a list of all tasks involved with planning a Wellness Retreat, which is incredibly helpful, as we have quite a few coming up. Additionally, I worked to finalize a draft for a Wellness Retreat Agenda, which will be checked-off in the coming days once I complete some edits. For the Retreat Agenda, I compiled games, wellness activities, and reflection time to create a fun time for our upcoming internal medicine graduates. I also cleaned and re-stocked the wellness room. After our admin time, we attended a team huddle where we gave a brief overview of the Special and Unique benefits. We then traveled to Kennestone Hospital to finish off the day with more admin time where I got to work on my resource guide, and also provided resources to a team member with questions.
